Meet the Jurors
Container Artist Residency 01 is pleased to be working with esteemed curators Sofia Hernandez Chong Cuy, Niels Van Tomme, and Xiaoyu Weng. As jurors, they will select the seven artists in residence together with project curator Prem Krishnamurthy and project founder Maayan Strauss. Selected artists will be announced in December 2015.
Sofia Hernandez Chong Cuy is the curator of contemporary art for the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, a position she has held since 2011. Previously, Sofia was Director of the Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), and held curatorial positions at Art in General and Americas Society, the latter two in New York. She has curated exhibitions for Kadist Art Foundation (Paris), MALBA (Buenos Aires), Center for Contemporary Art (Vilnius), and MUSAC (León).
Niels Van Tomme is a curator and writer working on the intersections of contemporary culture, politics, and aesthetics. Currently associated with the Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture in Baltimore, he is the appointed curator of the 7th Bucharest Biennale, 2016. His exhibitions and public programs have been shown at venues such as The Kitchen (New York), Värmlands Museum (Karlstad), National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Contemporary Arts Center (New Orleans), Gallery 400 (Chicago), and Akademie der Künste (Berlin).
Xiaoyu Weng is an Associate Curator at the Solomon. R. Guggenheim Museum. Previously, she served as the director and curator of Asia Programs at the Kadist Art Foundation. Weng has organized exhibitions and events for the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts (San Francisco), the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), the University of California Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives, the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum (Beijing), the Minsheng Art Museum (Shanghai), Guangdong Times Museum (Guangzhou), and the Witte de With Contemporary Art Center (Rotterdam).
